Somalia Launches Digital Finance Management Reform with E-Signatures

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia’s Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh on Sunday launched a digital public finance management system aimed at phasing out paperwork and improving transparency in government transactions.
The reform introduces secure electronic signatures for official use across ministries and state agencies, marking what officials described as a milestone in efforts to modernise Somalia’s financial system.
The launch is part of a series of financial governance reforms Somalia has been pursuing under programmes backed by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
In December, the IMF cleared Mogadishu for $4.5 billion in debt relief, contingent on continued progress in strengthening public financial management and revenue collection.
The federal government of Somalia has been seeking to modernise its economy and attract foreign investment as it emerges from decades of instability.
Digitising finance operations is a critical step towards building trust in state institutions and improving delivery of public services.
