Somalia Launches Federal-State Security Conference to Strengthen Coordination
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has launched a high-level security conference bringing together officials from the Federal Government and Federal Member States, as it seeks to strengthen coordination in tackling security challenges across the country.
The conference, inaugurated by Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail “Fartaag”, focuses on improving cooperation between federal and state-level security institutions to support ongoing efforts to enhance stability, public safety and national security.
Government officials said the gathering aims to strengthen collaboration among security agencies at a time when Somalia is intensifying operations against the militant group Al-Shabaab while also seeking to improve policing, intelligence-sharing and local security governance.
Addressing participants, Minister Fartaag underscored the importance of close coordination between different levels of government in responding to evolving security threats and maintaining stability in areas recovered from insurgent groups.
The meeting was attended by senior security officials, including Deputy Commander of the Somali Police Force Major General Osman Abdullahi Mohamed “Kaniif”, alongside representatives from federal and regional security institutions.
Speaking at the opening session, Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security Mohamed Shire said the conference is expected to generate recommendations aimed at strengthening security cooperation and creating a more unified approach to addressing security challenges nationwide.
The discussions come as Somalia continues efforts to enhance collaboration between federal and state authorities, a key component of the country’s broader security architecture. Effective coordination among security institutions remains essential to sustaining gains made against Al-Shabaab and improving public confidence in state security structures.
The conference is also taking place amid renewed efforts by Somali authorities to implement security sector reforms, improve law enforcement capabilities and support the gradual transfer of security responsibilities from international partners to Somali institutions.
Officials are expected to review existing security coordination mechanisms and identify areas where cooperation can be strengthened to support long-term peace and stability across the country.
