GOOBJOOG NEWS | JOWHAR: The federal government of Somalia and regional authorities on Monday launched a training workshop in Jowhar to strengthen media ethics in election coverage, with support from the United Nations mission (UNTMIS).

The programme brought together 20 journalists from local outlets in HirShabelle state and aims to improve professional standards in reporting elections in line with national regulations.

Officials said the initiative comes as Somalia prepares for upcoming polls. Similar workshops have been held in Mogadishu, Baidoa and Dhusamareb.

“This training is timely and critical as the country heads into elections,” said Abdirahman Hussein Waddani, chairman of the Middle Shabelle Journalists’ Union.

The Federal Ministry of Information said the program is part of wider efforts to ensure Somalia’s media play an active role in promoting transparency and accountability during the electoral process.
