Somalia Launches National Climate and Development Report

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has launched its National Climate and Development Report in Mogadishu, highlighting the need for stronger measures to address the growing impact of climate change on communities and the economy.

The report was unveiled at an event jointly organized by the Federal Government of Somalia and the World Bank, bringing together institutions working on environmental protection and development.

Participants discussed how recurring droughts and floods have increasingly affected Somali communities, agricultural production and economic activity.

The report calls for sustainable strategies to help communities adapt to changing climate conditions and stresses that cooperation between the government, international partners and local communities is essential to mitigate climate-related risks.

Ahmed Omar Mohamed, state minister for environment and climate change, said the initiative could help Somalia secure international funding and support for projects related to environmental protection, clean energy and economic development.

Officials say the report forms part of broader efforts to align Somalia’s development plans with environmental protection and long-term economic growth.
