Somalia Launches National Climate Summit to Forge United Response to Environmental Crisis

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia opened its National Environment and Climate Change Summit on Wednesday, as government leaders, civil society, and private sector stakeholders gathered in Mogadishu to map out a national strategy for climate resilience and sustainable development.
The summit was officially inaugurated by Acting Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama, who underscored the urgency of collective action in the face of intensifying climate challenges.
“Our future depends on inclusive and sustainable environmental policies,” Jama told attendees. “This summit provides a vital platform for forging coordinated action across all sectors of Somali society.”
The multi-day event brings together government officials, youth activists, civil society organizations, and business leaders to align national climate goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Sessions will include policy workshops, expert panels, and stakeholder consultations designed to shape Somalia’s environmental priorities.
The discussions are expected to tackle key issues such as climate adaptation, green economic growth, and protection of the country’s fragile ecosystems, an urgent task in a nation increasingly vulnerable to droughts, floods, and land degradation.
Organizers say the summit marks a turning point in Somalia’s climate agenda, aiming to foster stronger governance, local innovation, and global partnerships to build a more resilient future.
