Somalia Launches National Identity Card Printing
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced the official launch the country’s National ID Card printing.
The move marks a historic milestone towards establishing a unified and secure identification system aimed at empowering Somali citizens and facilitate access to essential services and fundamental rights.
Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation minister Ali Yusuf Ali commended NIRA for achieving this significant milestone, which paves the way for a reliable national identification framework.
NIRA Director-General Abdiwali Ali Abdulle expressed gratitude to the Somali people for their patience and support to the authority during the implementation of this historic initiative and apologize for any delays in the card printing process.
“The extended timeline was necessary to prioritize acquiring state-of-the-art equipment and high-quality materials, a goal we are proud to have achieved,” Abdulle said.
NIRA at the same time announced that citizens who registered at its various centers will receive an SMS notification once their ID cards are ready.
The message will include precise details about when and where they can collect their cards, ensuring an orderly and efficient distribution process.
The Authority also announced plans to inaugurate additional centers in other federal member states in a bid to expand the National Identification System nationwide.
