GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has taken a major step toward strengthening its public health response to hepatitis, with Health Minister Dr. Ali Haji Adam inaugurating a national consultation workshop to develop a five-year prevention and control strategy.

The two-day meeting brings together medical experts, government officials, and development partners to design a national roadmap aimed at reducing the burden of hepatitis between 2025 and 2030.

“This workshop marks a pivotal moment in our efforts to combat hepatitis,” said Dr. Haji Adam. “Success depends on education, public awareness, and making healthcare accessible to all.”

Hepatitis remains a growing health challenge in Somalia, where gaps in screening, treatment, and awareness persist. Officials say the new strategy will focus on prevention, early detection, and community-based interventions.

Participants are expected to produce an action plan with clear targets and measurable outcomes to guide national policy and strengthen the country’s health infrastructure.

Health authorities say the workshop reflects a wider push to improve disease control systems and reduce preventable illnesses across the country.
