GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has formed a special committee to investigate the importation of low-quality food and vegetables, in a move aimed at safeguarding consumers and boosting local production.

The task force has been instructed to deliver a detailed report within a short timeframe, examining supply chains and market sources linked to the entry of substandard goods into the country, the ministry said on Friday.

The three-member committee includes Mohamed Muse Aden, Director of the Department of Production and Cooperative Development; Khadar Yasin Mohamed from the Department of Agribusiness and Investment; and Abdihamid Jama Hassan from the Minister’s Office.

Officials said the findings will inform a national strategy to curb unnecessary food imports and promote domestic farming. The initiative is part of the government’s wider effort to strengthen Somalia’s agricultural sector, ensure food safety, and protect local livelihoods.
