Somalia Launches Public Forum on Constitutional Amendments

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs on Thursday opened a public consultation in Mogadishu to seek citizen input on proposed changes to the country’s provisional constitution.
The session, chaired by State Minister Ambassador Ilyaas Sheikh Omar, was organised in collaboration with Somalia’s three constitutional bodies and focused on draft revisions to Chapters 5 to 9.
Officials said the meeting was part of efforts to ensure transparency and public participation in a process seen as critical to stabilising Somalia’s fragile political system.
Participants were invited to voice their opinions and ask questions, with officials pledging that citizen feedback would be reflected in the review.
The constitutional overhaul has been a long-standing priority for Somalia, which is working to strengthen governance, establish durable legal frameworks and address disputes over power-sharing between federal and regional authorities.
