GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has launched a new tech-based training program aimed at modernizing agriculture and empowering youth with smart farming skills, as the country seeks long-term solutions to food insecurity and rural unemployment.

Minister of Agriculture Mohamed Abdi Hayir officially opened the six-week Internet of Things (IoT) training in Mogadishu, selecting 50 young professionals, half of them women, from over 770 applicants.

The initiative, led by the Ministry’s Center for Innovation and Agribusiness Development (CIAD) in partnership with the Jamhuriya Incubation Center, focuses on digital tools such as precision irrigation, crop monitoring, and data-driven farming techniques.

Officials say the program is designed to equip Somalia’s next generation of agripreneurs with technology that can improve productivity, conserve resources, and build climate resilience.

“This training is not just about technology, it’s about giving our youth the tools to transform the future of Somali agriculture,” said Minister Hayir during the launch.
