Somalia to mark National Army Day
Celebrations to mark the 57th anniversary of Somali National Army are scheduled to take place across Somalia today.
All public roads in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu are closed to traffic and security has been tightened across the city few days after the militant group Al-Shabaab launched two attacks in the city claiming over ten lives.
The Defense minister and other government officials are expected to attend the the commemorations of the army day which will take place at the defense ministry headquarters in Mogadishu.
Challenges still remain in the army in terms of training, equipment, welfare and discipline.
Somali National Army (SNA) was established in 12th April in 1960 after Somalia got its full independence.
The army was later re-established by the former transitional Somali governments.
