Somalia Marks Women’s Day with Pledge to Boost Female Roles in Army
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to increasing the participation of women in the Somali National Army during an event marking International Women’s Day in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, Chief of the Somali National Army Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, Ground Forces Commander Sahal Abdullahi Omar and the ambassador of Turkey to Somalia.
Officials highlighted the role of women in national defence and military operations, with the government pledging to expand opportunities for women within Somalia’s security institutions.
Fiqi said the federal government would continue promoting women’s leadership and capabilities in the armed forces as part of broader efforts to strengthen the national army.
Speakers at the event also praised the contributions of female soldiers in supporting security operations and maintaining stability, while acknowledging international support for the development and professionalization of Somalia’s military.
