Storyline:National News

Somali military court on Thursday sentenced military army officer to death after finding him guilty of murdering a police officer in Mogadishu on 6th October last year, officials said.

Chairperson of the Military Court, Hassan Ali Shute, said Mohamed Abdirahman Ibrahim committed the crime deliberately and he killed Salad Hassan Mohamed police officer at Ex-control Mogadishu.

“The Court sentenced army officer Mohamed Abdirahman Ibrahim to death after finding him guilty of killing Said Aden Yusuf a police officer at his work station on 6th October 2018,” Shute said.

He added that there had been an argument between the two before the accused opened fire on the deceased. Shute said the court also stripped Mohamed Abdirahman Ibrahim of his rank in the army and sentenced him to death.

The military court often carries out sentences and executions to Al-Shabaab militants and government soldiers who commit crimes despite condemnation from human rights groups including the European Union.
