Somalia, Morocco Pledge Closer Economic and Political Cooperation in Rabat Talks
GOOBJOOG NEWS | RABAT: Somalia and Morocco signalled a renewed push to deepen their bilateral partnership after Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met his Moroccan counterpart Aziz Akhannouch in Rabat for high-level discussions on diplomacy, trade and regional development.
The talks, held during PM Barre’s working visit, centred on strengthening political ties and expanding economic cooperation. Somali officials said the meeting reinforces Somalia’s strategy of broadening partnerships as it advances political reforms and consolidates security gains.
Barre briefed the Moroccan side on Somalia’s progress in governance, including preparations for the landmark shift to a one person, one vote electoral system, a transition he said reflects Somalia’s commitment to stability, democratic inclusion and long-term institution building.
Akhannouch welcomed Somalia’s reform trajectory and underlined Morocco’s interest in expanding cooperation in trade, investment and public diplomacy. He described the relationship as strategically important for both countries and called for a more structured roadmap to guide future engagement.
The outcome of the meeting sets the stage for strengthened collaboration, with both governments agreeing to step up joint efforts in development, economic exchange and regional affairs. The renewed momentum is expected to translate into concrete programs aimed at boosting economic ties and reinforcing diplomatic coordination.
