GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other senior government leaders have paid tribute to Sultan Abdiqadir Haji Mahmoud, a prominent traditional elder and former deputy leader of Jubbaland, following his death.

The Sultan, remembered for his steady leadership and commitment to peace, played a key role in Somalia’s reconciliation efforts and the formation of regional administrations.

President Mohamud praised Sultan Abdiqadir as “a voice of reason during difficult times,” calling his passing a national loss.

“He was a cornerstone in community dialogue and state-building efforts,” the president said in a statement offering condolences to the Sultan’s family and the people of Jubbaland.

Speaker of the House Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, and other officials also extended their sympathies, describing the Sultan as a bridge-builder who earned the respect of leaders and citizens alike.

Sultan Abdiqadir held deep influence in southern Somalia, particularly within Jubbaland, where elders play an essential role in conflict mediation, governance, and social cohesion.

His death comes at a time when Somalia continues to rely on traditional leaders to anchor peace efforts across fractured communities.
