GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Somalia is ramping up efforts to rebuild its cities and infrastructure, with new plans to expand World Bank-funded urban resilience and reconstruction projects across the country, officials said.

Somalia’s Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing, Dr. Elmi Mahmoud Nur, met with World Bank officials in Nairobi to accelerate the Somalia Urban Resilience Project (SURP II) and to prepare for a broader rollout of the NAGAAD program.

The talks aimed to ensure that more regions, including those previously left out, gain access to critical reconstruction funding as Somalia pushes to recover from decades of conflict.

“We are determined to guarantee that every region of Somalia benefits equally from international support and development opportunities,” Dr. Elmi said after the meeting.

The Nairobi talks, described as a strategic step ahead of deeper technical discussions, ended with renewed pledges to fast-track project implementation and to promote inclusive national recovery efforts.

The World Bank remains one of Somalia’s key partners in rebuilding basic services and infrastructure, vital for restoring stability and driving economic growth.
