Somalia Moves to Implement 2027–2031 Culture and Arts Strategy

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism has begun strengthening the capacity of officials responsible for implementing the country’s 2027–2031 Culture and Arts Strategy, with the government seeking to translate the five-year plan into practical programmes and measurable activities.

The ministry’s Department of Culture and Research organised a capacity-building meeting in Mogadishu on Tuesday, bringing together officials involved in implementing the strategy.

The meeting was opened by the ministry’s Director General, Abdullahi Hayir Duale, who stressed the importance of ensuring that staff responsible for implementation have a clear understanding of the strategy and the capacity needed to deliver its objectives.

Director of Culture and Research Adan Abdiqani Awale said the capacity-building process was intended to strengthen officials’ understanding of the strategy while improving planning and coordination of the activities required to implement it.

Discussions focused on how the strategy’s objectives could be translated into concrete action plans, programmes and activities, alongside stronger systems for monitoring implementation and evaluating whether the expected results are being achieved.

The initiative forms part of the ministry’s broader efforts to prepare for the implementation of the Culture and Arts Strategy 2027–2031, providing a framework for coordinating government efforts in the cultural and creative sectors over the coming five years.

The ministry said effective implementation would depend on the ability of those responsible to plan, coordinate and monitor activities linked to the strategy’s objectives.

Somalia is seeking to strengthen the role of culture and the arts in preserving the country’s heritage and supporting the development of its cultural sector, with the new strategy intended to provide a longer-term framework for government action in the field.
