GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia is moving to integrate its national identification system with public services in an effort to make it easier for citizens to access government services through a single identity.

The Director General of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), Abdiwali Ali Abdulle (Timacadde), visited the National Unified Public Service Delivery Centre, known as HALMEEL, where officials discussed linking NIRA’s identification and registration services to the centre’s wider service platform.

The planned integration is intended to allow citizens to use their national identity to access multiple government services through a more connected system, reducing the need to navigate separate processes and institutions.

The meeting between NIRA and HALMEEL officials focused on how the two institutions can work together to make public services more accessible and efficient.

During the visit, Abdulle toured the HALMEEL service centre, including the area designated for NIRA services.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernise Somalia’s public administration and build digital systems that can connect citizens with government services.

If implemented effectively, the integration could also help government institutions share verified identity information more efficiently while providing a common foundation for delivering public services.

The partnership is therefore expected to make national identification a more central part of how citizens interact with government, as Somalia works toward a more integrated public service system.
