Somalia Moves to Modernise Airports in Bid to Boost Economy, Connectivity

GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has said planned upgrades to airports across the country will allow round-the-clock operations, improve regional air links and strengthen compliance with global standards, outcomes officials say are key to driving economic growth.
The measures, developed with World Bank support during a week-long workshop in Nairobi, include installing modern equipment, rehabilitating smaller airstrips to accommodate larger aircraft and upgrading infrastructure to improve safety and efficiency.
Transport Minister Mohamed Farah Nuux said the improvements would enhance mobility for citizens, attract investment and reinforce Somalia’s integration into regional and international markets.
The World Bank said reliable air transport will play a central role in rebuilding Somalia’s economy and supporting wider infrastructure development.
