Somalia Opens Key Humanitarian Forum in Baidoa to Boost Disaster Response

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Somalia has launched a high-level humanitarian conference in Baidoa aimed at strengthening the country’s response to ongoing crises caused by drought, flooding, displacement, and food insecurity.
The Somalia Humanitarian Forum 2025 (CHF 2025), convened by the Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA), brings together federal and state officials, international agencies, NGOs, and donors to develop a unified approach to aid coordination and delivery.
“The forum is a turning point in how we respond to the needs of our people. We must lead with local solutions and align global support to Somali-driven priorities,” SoDMA Commissioner said during opening remarks.
Held in the interim capital of South West State, a region at the heart of humanitarian operations, the conference focuses on improving aid financing, promoting local leadership, enhancing resilience in vulnerable communities, and ensuring transparency in decision-making.
Participants are expected to review current response plans, identify delivery gaps, and agree on joint actions that will shape the country’s humanitarian roadmap.
The choice of Baidoa as host city reflects its frontline role in managing emergencies and hosting thousands displaced by conflict and climate shocks.
For millions of Somalis facing chronic food insecurity and climate hardship, the forum signals a renewed effort to deliver smarter, faster, and more coordinated humanitarian support where it’s needed most.
