Somalia Opens National ID Registration Centre at Embassy in South Africa
GOOBJOOG NEWS | PRETORIA: The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has opened a new service centre at the Somali embassy in South Africa, extending national ID registration services to Somali citizens living in the region.
The centre was officially inaugurated at the embassy in Pretoria by Somalia’s ambassador to South Africa, Mohamed Sheikh Isaq, in the presence of embassy diplomats and staff.
Speaking at the launch, the ambassador called on embassy officials to provide transparent, efficient and citizen-focused services to Somalis applying for the national identification card through the mission.
The move was welcomed by members of the Somali diaspora across southern Africa, who said the new facility would reduce the need for long-distance travel and speed up access to official identification documents.
The federal government has been expanding overseas registration services as part of broader efforts to strengthen Somalia’s national identity system and improve access to public services for citizens living abroad.
