GOOBJOOG NEWS | DAR ES SALAAM: Somalia has inaugurated a newly built residence for its ambassador in Tanzania, in a move that reflects efforts to strengthen diplomatic presence in East Africa.

Hamza Adan Hadow, Permanent Secretary at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Dar es Salaam, describing the project as part of a broader push to modernise the country’s foreign missions.

Senior Tanzanian government officials, diplomats accredited to Tanzania and members of the Somali community attended the event, underscoring what both sides called growing cooperation between Mogadishu and Dodoma.

The residence forms part of ongoing renovations and upgrades at the Somali embassy led by Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan. Officials said the improvements are aimed at aligning Somalia’s diplomatic facilities with international standards and projecting a renewed image of the Horn of Africa nation.

In remarks at the ceremony, Hadow said the investment signalled Somalia’s commitment to deepening what he described as fraternal and strategic relations with Tanzania, a key partner in the East African region.

Ambassador Ilyas said the upgraded residence and embassy compound would enhance the mission’s ability to serve Somali citizens and strengthen bilateral engagement.

Somalia has in recent years sought to expand its diplomatic footprint and rebuild institutions as it pursues closer ties with regional and international partners.
