Somalia, Panama Ink Deal to Deepen Bilateral Ties
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEW YORK: The Federal Government of Somalia and Panama have signed an agreement aimed at deepening the already existing bilateral relations between the two nations.
The deal was discussed during a meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York between Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and Panama’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Ruíz-Hernández.
During the meeting, the two sides also deliberated on shared priorities as members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) highlighting the need to advance common goals in international forums.
The two sides also reiterated their commitment to upholding international law, promoting peace and stability, and advocating for the rights of small and developing states.
Minister Fiqi expressed Somalia’s interest in formalizing bilateral relations with Panama, underscoring the need for stronger collaboration between Africa and Latin America.
On his part, Vice Minister Ruíz-Hernández said Panama will continue to support Somalia’s initiatives within the UNSC noting that fostering relationships with African nations like Somalia aligns with Panama’s broader goals of expanding its global partnerships.
The two countries agreed to establish formal diplomatic ties, setting the stage for enhanced cooperation in areas such as trade, security, and capacity-building.
