Somalia Participates in EAC Council Talks on Regional Integration
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ARUSHA: Somalia has reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration as its envoy participated in the 59th Extraordinary Meeting of the East African Community Council of Ministers in Arusha, Tanzania.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and Permanent Representative to the EAC, Ilyas Ali Hassan, represented the country at the high-level meeting held at the bloc’s headquarters.
The session brought together ministers and senior officials from EAC member states to review and advance key regional integration initiatives and implement decisions adopted by the EAC Heads of State.
Discussions centred on strengthening cross-border cooperation, aligning policies among member states and advancing frameworks aimed at improving trade, security and institutional coordination across the region.
During the meeting, the Somali delegation reiterated Mogadishu’s commitment to the objectives of the East African Community, highlighting the country’s interest in expanding economic cooperation and contributing to regional peace and stability.
Somalia joined the East African Community in 2023, a move aimed at boosting trade links, strengthening economic ties and deepening regional cooperation with East African neighbours.
