Somalia Participates in WSIS+20, AI For Good Summit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | GENEVA: Federal Republic of Somalia’s Communication and Technology minister Mohamed Aden Ali is in Geneva, Switzerland for the WSIS+20 Forum, a High-Level Event and AI for Good Global Summit which runs from May 27-31.
For over twenty years, the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) have guided global digital cooperation across the UN system and spurred efforts to leverage digital technologies for sustainable development.
The WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, and other UN agencies and co-hosted by the ITU and the Swiss Confederation.
Minister Ali while addressing the forum outlined the various achievements in the communication and technology sector over the past ten years which has seen the country expand its internet connectivity to broaden its digital infrastructure.
He added that the federal government through the expansion of its digital infrastructure aims to promote international cooperation on crucial digital issues especially within the East African region for the benefit of the region’s citizens.
The Global Summit is an opportunity for multistakeholder engagement to promote and discuss the use of AI to advance health, climate, gender, inclusive prosperity, sustainable infrastructure, and other global development priorities.
AI for Good is organized by the ITU in partnership with 40 other UN agencies and co-convened with the government of Switzerland.
