Somalia PM Hails Khaatumo, Pledges Full Federal Rights

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LAASCAANOOD: Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Sunday declared full federal recognition for the newly formed Khaatumo administration, calling it a reflection of the will of the people in the conflict-scarred SSC regions.

Speaking before thousands at a landmark public gathering titled “Prime Minister Hamza and the People of SSC-Khaatumo”, Barre praised the region’s unity and reaffirmed Mogadishu’s commitment to inclusive governance.

“I was filled with joy and deep affection witnessing the unity with which you have upheld the integrity and the flag of the Federal Republic of Somalia,” Barre said in his keynote speech. “It is a fortunate moment to see the blue flag raised high across many parts of the northern regions. We are at a time when the Somali people most need peace and unity.”

The event, held in Laascaanood as part of the Prime Minister’s peace and unity mission, drew crowds from across the region, along with federal and local officials, traditional elders, and community leaders.

Barre lauded their collective efforts to uphold national cohesion and encouraged SSC-Khaatumo leaders to accelerate their transition from interim status to permanent federal member statehood.

“The Khaatumo administration has been formed in line with the aspirations of its people,” Barre said, pledging that the new regional government will enjoy equal rights and privileges as other federal member states.

The Prime Minister’s visit, described by local leaders as historic, comes amid renewed efforts to stabilize the northern territories and promote national unity after periods of unrest. Throughout the evening, speakers from various sectors voiced support for Somalia’s unity and the legitimacy of the SSC-Khaatumo leadership.

Barre concluded by thanking the people of SSC-Khaatumo for their steadfast support for peace, calling their resolve “a beacon of hope” for Somalia’s future.
