GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday renewed a national push to boost local food production, calling it a cornerstone for economic growth and self-sufficiency.

Speaking at the opening of the National Conference on Food and Agricultural Investment in Mogadishu, Barre urged Somali entrepreneurs to pour resources into the country’s agriculture sector, warning that over-reliance on food imports was unsustainable.

“We must invest in our land, in our people and in our future,” Barre said, highlighting domestic farming as key to reducing the country’s import dependency.

The conference also spotlighted agricultural innovations from Somali youth, with the prime minister applauding their efforts and urging more young people to pursue careers in agricultural science.

“A self-reliant Somalia starts with the next generation,” he said.
