Somalia Pushes for Deeper Africa–Europe Ties at Luanda Summit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | LUANDA: Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama used the opening of the 7th AU–EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, to call for stronger cooperation between Africa and Europe on peace, trade, development and climate action.
Salah’s remarks came as leaders from both blocs met under the theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism”, marking the 25th anniversary of formal Africa–EU partnership.
The summit, co-chaired by Angolan President João Lourenço and European Council President António Costa, brings together heads of state and government to review joint priorities, including economic integration, security, migration, climate resilience and global governance reforms.
In the run-up to the summit, more than 100 civil society and youth representatives gathered in Luanda for an AU–EU forum to propose concrete recommendations on issues like governance, digital innovation and green transition.
Somalia’s call for alignment with Europe, particularly on peace, blue-economy investment and youth empowerment, comes at a moment when the AU–EU partnership is renewing its long-term vision under Agenda 2063, as well as the EU’s Global Gateway investment push.
