GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Qatar have agreed to strengthen cooperation on human rights protection and social development following talks between Somalia’s Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzumi, and Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the Qatar Human Rights Commission.

The two sides committed to launching joint capacity-building and technical assistance programs aimed at improving institutional performance, promoting equality, and protecting vulnerable groups in Somalia.

The agreement is expected to enhance Somalia’s newly established Independent National Human Rights Commission through training and knowledge exchange with Qatari experts.

Minister Al-Makhzumi said the partnership would accelerate Somalia’s human rights reforms and reinforce accountability mechanisms as part of broader national governance improvements.

Chairperson Al Attiyah pledged Qatar’s continued support for Somalia’s institutional development, noting that stronger collaboration will also expand Doha’s role in advancing regional human rights and social development efforts.

Officials from both countries described the meeting as a step toward a structured, long-term partnership focused on building resilient institutions and ensuring greater protection of human dignity.
