Somalia, Qatar Push to Fast-Track Defence and Infrastructure Deals
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Qatar have moved to accelerate the implementation of key bilateral agreements covering defence cooperation and infrastructure development.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met Qatari Ambassador Abdullah bin Salem Al-Nuaimi in Mogadishu, where the two sides reviewed progress on previously signed memorandums and agreed to fast-track priority projects.
According to the prime minister’s office, discussions centred on strengthening defence collaboration as Somalia continues to rebuild its national security institutions, as well as advancing infrastructure and humanitarian initiatives backed by Doha.
The government said it is moving to translate agreements into concrete programmes aimed at stabilising liberated areas and improving public services.
Qatar reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s sovereignty and long-term development goals, officials said.
The meeting reflects Mogadishu’s broader push to deepen strategic partnerships as it consolidates security gains and seeks investment to underpin state-building and economic recovery in the Horn of Africa.
