Somalia, Qatar Reaffirm Strategic Ties amid Push for Reforms and Elections
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Qatar have reaffirmed their close partnership following talks in Mogadishu between Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and Qatar’s ambassador to Somalia, Abdullah bin Salem Al-Nuaimi.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation as the Federal Government of Somalia accelerates political reforms, reconstruction efforts and preparations for wider public elections under its one-person, one-vote agenda.
Prime Minister Hamza briefed the Qatari envoy on the government’s ongoing security operations, state-building initiatives and progress in implementing political and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening stability and governance across the country.
The Somali leader also praised Qatar’s continued support for Somalia, particularly in infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance and support for national unity and stabilisation efforts.
Officials said the discussions highlighted the growing strategic relationship between Mogadishu and Doha, with both sides reaffirming commitments to deepen cooperation across development, security and economic sectors.
Ambassador Al-Nuaimi reiterated Qatar’s support for Somalia’s unity, recovery and long-term development, underscoring Doha’s commitment to remaining a key partner in Somalia’s reconstruction and institutional rebuilding process.
The meeting comes as Somalia intensifies diplomatic engagement with regional and international allies while advancing military operations against Al-Shabaab and pushing forward electoral and governance reforms.
Qatar has emerged as one of Somalia’s key international partners in recent years, supporting major infrastructure
