Somalia Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Transformation at Global ICT Summit

GOOBJOOG NEWS | Geneva, Switzerland: Somalia’s Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Moallim, is among global leaders attending the WSIS+20 High-Level Summit in Geneva, where the future of digital development is under the spotlight.
The summit, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with the Swiss government, marks two decades since the launch of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
It brings together policymakers, tech experts, and industry stakeholders to assess progress and chart the way forward for inclusive digital transformation.
Minister Moallim has been actively engaged in bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the summit, holding meetings with Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau, as well as his counterparts from Malaysia and Djibouti.
Talks focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas such as cybersecurity, youth digital skills development, and digital governance frameworks.
“Digital transformation is not just a policy goal for Somalia, it is a cornerstone of our national development and a vital pathway for social inclusion,” Minister Moallim said after the meetings. “We are committed to working with international partners to accelerate progress in this space.”
The minister’s delegation includes the Director-General of Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA) and Somalia’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Austria, Khadra Ahmed Duale.
Somalia’s participation comes as the country looks to expand access to digital services and modernize its ICT infrastructure, with the goal of unlocking new opportunities for education, innovation, and economic growth.
