Somalia Reaffirms Reform Drive as Partners Gather in Nairobi
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Federal Government of Somalia has renewed its pledge to push ahead with economic reforms and long-term development plans at a two-day international conference in Nairobi, bringing together major global partners backing the country’s recovery.
The meeting, organised by the Somali Bank for Development and Reconstruction, drew officials from the World Bank, African Development Bank, European Union and several diplomatic missions, signalling growing confidence in Somalia’s economic direction.
Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh, who led Somalia’s delegation alongside the governors of the Development Bank and the Central Bank, said Mogadishu had “overcome difficult stages in terms of economic reform” and was now focused on turning those gains into tangible development.
Delegates discussed ways to accelerate economic growth, expand social services and strengthen reconstruction efforts through deeper cooperation with international financial institutions. Development partners noted that Somalia’s recent reforms provided a foundation for more inclusive and sustainable progress.
Egeh said the newly formed Board of the Development Bank had been appointed through a transparent and merit-based process, adding that strong institutions would be crucial for the next phase of economic transformation.
He thanked international partners for their continued support, saying their engagement remained “key to the stability and future development of the country.”
