Somalia recalls ambassador to Sudan, officials over student complaints
Somali ambassador to Sudan and all diplomatic staff have been recalled following complaints from Somali students studying in that country.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Awad said Sunday his ministry recalled all the staff at the embassy on orders from Prime Minister Hassan Khaire.
“The decree aims at recalling the Somali embassy officials in Khartoum as well as officials from other government agencies such as ministry of Education, Security and Commerce and Office of Citizenship and Immigration,” the Minister said during a media interview.
Awad said the decision was arrived at following Khaire’s visit to Sudan last month where ‘he received complaints from Somali students in Sudan’. “In respecting the Prime Minister’s orders and the concerns of the Somali students in Sudan, the Foreign Affairs ministry requests the diplomats and all the staff in the Somali embassy in Sudan to come back home,” the Minister added.
Somali students in Sudan had complained over the manner in which their concerns were being handled by the Somali embassy in Sudan.
