Somalia Receives AU Military Equipment to Strengthen Peace, Security Efforts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DOUALA: Somalia has received a significant shipment of military equipment from the African Union (AU), a move officials say will reinforce the country’s security forces and accelerate efforts to stabilize the region.
The consignment, handed over at the AU Continental Logistics Base in Douala, Cameroon, includes armored vehicles, protective gear, an armored personnel carrier, fuel and water tankers, engines, and medical supplies. Officials say the aid will bolster Somalia’s ability to safeguard civilians and counter militant threats.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Amb. Abdullahi Mohamed Warfa, received the equipment during a formal ceremony, calling it a vital step in strengthening national security institutions.
“The AU’s unwavering support is critical to Somalia’s fight against terrorism and its broader goal of lasting peace,” the Somali government said in a statement, adding that the new resources would enhance counterinsurgency efforts and institutional resilience.
Somalia has faced persistent security challenges, with militant groups threatening stability in the region.
The AU’s military assistance underscores a continued commitment to peacebuilding and ensuring a secure future for Somalia and the broader Horn of Africa.
