Somalia Regains Full Control Over Human Rights Oversight in Landmark UN Decision

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has welcomed a landmark decision by the United Nations Human Rights Council to restore the country’s full authority to manage and report on its own human rights affairs, marking the end of decades of international oversight.

Calling the move a “historic and defining moment,” Presiednt Mohamud said the decision reflects Somalia’s progress in governance and its readiness to independently uphold international human rights standards.

“Today marks a historic day for Somalia. We have made remarkable strides in governance and are now prepared to independently meet our national and international obligations to respect and protect human rights,” the president said in a statement.

President Mohamud reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting justice, equality, and the protection of civil liberties, while maintaining close cooperation with regional and global partners.
