Somalia reiterates support for China in defending its territorial integrity as China-Taiwan tensions escalates 

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a statement reaffirming its unwavering support for China’s sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity and national unity.

According to a statement made by the government of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the DFS also stated its strong position in respecting the one-China policy, considering Taiwan to be part of China’s territory, and called for compliance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union.

“Somalia has a long-standing relationship with China, as the cooperation between the two friendly countries is distinguished in the fields of politics, economy and development for common benefit, in addition to connecting positions at the regional and international levels.” read the statement from the ministry of affairs.

The statement comes as tensions continue to escalate between China and the Island nation. Beijing views the Island as part of its territory and has vowed to eventually “unify” Taiwan with the mainland, using force if necessary.
