Somalia, Saudi Arabia Advance Maritime Cooperation and Environmental Standards
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ST PETERSBURG: Somalia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to advance maritime cooperation and align their shipping sectors with international environmental standards following talks held on the sidelines of a logistics forum in St Petersburg.
The meeting, involving Mohamed Ali Nur (Americo) of the Mogadishu Port Authority and Saudi officials, resulted in a shared commitment to accelerate the implementation of existing bilateral agreements and strengthen collaboration in maritime development.
Both sides agreed to enhance coordination on marine environmental protection and emission reduction, in line with standards set by the International Maritime Organization.
The outcome is expected to support Somalia’s efforts to modernize its maritime sector, improve port efficiency, and position the country as a more competitive player in regional and global shipping.
The agreement also reinforces Somalia’s growing engagement with international partners to develop sustainable maritime infrastructure and expand trade opportunities.
