Somalia, Saudi Arabia Agree To Boost Institutional Support and Development Ties
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to expand cooperation aimed at strengthening parliamentary institutions and accelerating development and reconstruction efforts.
The understanding follows talks between Speaker of the House of the People Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe and Saudi Ambassador Ahmed bin Mohamed Almowallad, with both sides signalling that closer engagement would translate into practical support for governance reforms and state capacity-building.
The enhanced Saudi backing is expected to improve the effectiveness of Somalia’s parliament, support legislative oversight and contribute to broader political stability, a key factor for long-term development and investor confidence.
The agreement also reinforces Saudi Arabia’s role in humanitarian assistance and social services, sectors that remain critical as Somalia continues post-conflict recovery and institutional reform.
Both sides said sustained cooperation would help Somalia consolidate state-building gains and strengthen its regional and international partnerships.
