Somalia, Saudi Arabia Ink Ports Cooperation Pact to Boost Maritime Trade
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Saudi Arabia have signed a cooperation agreement on port development and maritime transport, deepening economic ties between the two countries and strengthening collaboration along key Red Sea trade routes.
The accord was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.
In a joint statement, the two sides said the deal covers port development, export promotion, investment opportunities and the exchange of technical expertise. The agreement also provides for closer cooperation in maritime infrastructure and related economic sectors.
Somali officials said the partnership is expected to modernize port facilities, improve operational efficiency and attract foreign investment as Mogadishu seeks to position the country as a competitive maritime gateway in the Horn of Africa.
The agreement builds on expanding relations between the two nations, which have in recent years strengthened cooperation in maritime security and the protection of strategic sea lanes.
The new pact aligns with Somalia’s broader blue economy strategy and is intended to enhance regional connectivity and trade across East Africa and the Gulf.
