Somalia Says Partnership With U.S. Key to Fight Against Al Shabaab, ISIS

GOOBJOOG NEWS | WASHINGTON: The federal government of Somalia has said it remains a central security partner of the United States, highlighting more than 20 joint operations this year against al Shabaab and Islamic State militants.

The government said coordination with U.S. forces in 2025 had reached “unprecedented levels” and warned that extremist groups thrive when Somali unity and territorial integrity are undermined.

“Any policy that weakens Somali sovereignty risks emboldening terrorists and destabilising the Horn of Africa,” Somali officials said in a statement issued in Washington.

Mogadishu reiterated its commitment to protecting sovereignty, preserving national unity and working with international partners to strengthen regional peace and security.
