GOOBJOOG NEWS | JEDDAH: Somalia has secured renewed Saudi political backing and commitments to expand bilateral cooperation following talks on the sidelines of an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar met Saudi vice Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji during the summit, where member states discussed a unified response to developments in the Palestinian territories.

Somali officials said Riyadh reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity, a diplomatic boost for Mogadishu amid regional sensitivities.

The meeting also advanced cooperation in security and economic sectors, with both sides agreeing to strengthen coordination mechanisms between their respective institutions.

For Somalia, the outcome reinforces strategic ties with one of its key Gulf partners, potentially unlocking greater economic engagement, security collaboration and political support within multilateral forums.

The talks highlight Mogadishu’s push to translate participation in major Islamic and regional platforms into tangible diplomatic and development gains at home.
