GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has invited bids to construct a State Emergency Operations Center and warehouse in Las’anod, the capital of Sool region, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s disaster preparedness.

The project, developed with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of Northern State Somalia, aims to create a central hub for emergency coordination, relief warehousing, and humanitarian planning.

According to SoDMA, the facility will include administrative offices, logistics storage, meeting spaces, and WASH facilities, and will be powered by both electrical and solar systems to support round-the-clock operations.

It will also feature a three-metre security perimeter and promote local employment during construction.

Las’anod, in northern Somalia, has faced recurring shocks including displacement, drought and floods. SoDMA said the center would improve rapid response capacity in vulnerable and underserved regions.

Construction firms have until 4 p.m. East Africa Time on Aug. 20 to submit applications.
