Somalia Seeks Closer Cooperation with DRC to Safeguard Citizens Abroad
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ilyas Ali Hassan, has called for stronger protection and improved public services for Somali nationals living in the DRC’s Haut-Katanga province, home to one of the country’s largest Somali communities.
Speaking during a meeting with Governor Martin Kazembe Shula and other senior provincial leaders in Lubumbashi, Ambassador Hassan praised the Somali community’s role in local trade and investment, urging authorities to facilitate their access to essential government services.
“The Somali community has made valuable contributions to Haut-Katanga’s economy and social development,” the ambassador said. “It is vital that they receive the support and recognition they deserve as law-abiding residents and businesspeople.”
Hassan’s visit reflects Mogadishu’s broader diplomatic effort to strengthen ties with host nations and ensure the welfare of Somali citizens abroad. The meeting also marked a step toward deeper cooperation between Somalia and the DRC on economic and community development.
