GOOBJOOG NEWS | BIRMINGHAM, England: The federal government of Somalia has sought stronger backing from the Somali diaspora in the United Kingdom to support national unity, security reforms and upcoming elections, following talks between a senior official and community leaders in Birmingham.

Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adaala told the gathering that the government was counting on the diaspora to help consolidate recent gains in state-building, counter divisive political narratives and support efforts to extend state authority to areas cleared of extremist groups.

The meeting reinforced commitments by community leaders to continue supporting Somalia through advocacy, remittances and engagement in the country’s political and development agenda, including preparations for one-person-one-vote elections.

Al-Adaala said diaspora engagement was critical to sustaining momentum on governance reforms and safeguarding Somalia’s unity and sovereignty at a time of heightened political debate.

The meeting underscored the government’s push to mobilise overseas Somalis as key stakeholders in Somalia’s stabilisation, economic recovery and long-term political transition.
