GOOBJOOG NEWS | ADDIS ABABA: A Somali delegation led by Liban Adan Obsiye, Executive Director of the Somali National Climate Change Fund, has joined African leaders in Ethiopia for the African Climate Finance Conference, highlighting the country’s drive to secure funding for climate adaptation.

Obsiye told delegates that Somalia’s newly established Climate Finance System, created by presidential decree last year and managed under the Ministry of Finance, was a landmark step in improving coordination and accountability in the sector.

In a session on Green Climate Fund (GCF) Platforms, he urged African states to strengthen accredited national institutions to reduce implementation costs and make better use of existing systems. “Africa is the most vulnerable continent to climate change yet faces major obstacles in accessing climate finance,” he said.

Obsiye also met with officials from the GCF and other international institutions to advance partnerships and explore funding opportunities for Somalia’s climate resilience programmes.

He called on governments to integrate climate finance into national budgets, boost domestic revenues and improve public spending to meet adaptation needs.
