GOOBJOOG NEWS | MAHÉ: Somalia is stepping up its efforts to strengthen public accountability and financial oversight after joining regional peers at a major summit of African audit institutions in Mahé, Seychelles.

The Auditor General of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ahmed Issa Gutale, represented the country at the 21st Governing Board Meeting of the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), held from May 19–23.

The high-level forum marked a critical moment for Somalia’s Office of the Auditor General (OAG), which is working to modernize audit practices and align with continental standards. The adoption of AFROSAI-E’s new 2025–2029 Strategic Plan will provide Somalia with technical support, training frameworks, and a platform for regional cooperation to improve transparency and financial management.

“Somalia’s involvement in AFROSAI-E is more than symbolic—it’s a pathway to stronger institutions, better audit impact, and ultimately greater public trust,” said Auditor General Gutale. “The lessons and partnerships we gain here will help us build a more accountable government at home.”

The summit also focused on combatting corruption through stronger collaboration between audit offices and investigative bodies—an area Somalia has prioritized as part of broader governance reforms.

Somalia’s participation underscores its growing role in regional audit development, as the country works to transition from fragility to fiscal discipline and institutional resilience.

This year’s meeting also marked AFROSAI-E’s 20th anniversary, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts to drive sustainable development and good governance across Africa.
