Somalia Seeks Stronger Justice Reforms as Chief Justice Joins Regional Forum in Nairobi
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Chief Justice, Bashir Yusuf Ahmed, has used a regional gathering of East African chief justices in Nairobi to push for reforms aimed at making Somalia’s justice system more accessible, efficient and people-centred.
His participation signals Somalia’s growing engagement in regional judicial cooperation at a time when the country is overhauling its courts, expanding legal services, and modernising its justice institutions.
By joining discussions on alternative dispute resolution, legal harmonisation, judicial capacity-building and the use of technology, Somalia stands to benefit from shared regional experience that could speed up its own reforms.
Several of the models discussed, including community-based justice approaches and digital case management, align with priorities already underway in Somalia’s justice sector.
The forum also opens doors for stronger partnerships and technical support as Somalia works to improve public trust in the judiciary, reduce case backlogs and widen access to justice in underserved regions.
The meeting concluded with plans for a joint communiqué detailing regional commitments, which Somalia is expected to integrate into its ongoing justice reform agenda.
