Somalia Sends Condolences to Russia After Fatal Plane Crash

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has expressed its condolences to Russia following a deadly plane crash in the Amur region that killed all 48 people on board.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Somali government described the crash as a “devastating tragedy” and voiced solidarity with the Russian Federation during what it called “a time of national mourning and affliction.”
“We are deeply saddened by this heart-rending event. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, including foreign nationals, who are grieving the loss of their loved ones,” the statement from the ministry reads in part.
Russian authorities said the Antonov An-24 aircraft, built in 1976, crashed and caught fire while attempting to land after an aborted first approach. A search helicopter located the wreckage engulfed in flames.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over the safety of aging regional aircraft in Russia. Preliminary reports suggest that bad weather and possible mechanical failure may have played a role. Investigations are ongoing.
Somalia, which maintains cordial relations with Moscow, reiterated its commitment to supporting friendly nations in times of crisis.
