Somalia Sets Price Cap, Opens Registration for 2026 Hajj Pilgrims

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has launched registration for the 2026 Hajj season (1447 Hijri), introducing new operational and financial rules designed to ensure transparency, safety and fair pricing for Somali pilgrims.
The Ministry said the reforms, developed in coordination with Saudi authorities, are part of efforts to guarantee a dignified and well-organized pilgrimage experience for citizens traveling to Makkah and Madinah.
Under the new guidelines, the full Hajj package price will be capped at $4,543.50, with payments prohibited until the Ministry announces the final approved fee. Licensed travel companies must sign detailed service agreements with pilgrims, submit registration data through an official electronic system, and handle all logistics from Somalia’s designated airports in Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Garowe, and Bossaso.
The Ministry also warned that unauthorized payment collection or unlicensed operations would lead to legal action, urging pilgrims to deal only with the 71 officially approved Hajj companies listed on its website.
Officials said the Ministry will maintain full oversight throughout the pilgrimage, ensuring reliable transport, accommodation, health services, and spiritual support. The government also pledged to improve service quality for pilgrims traveling from Saudi Arabia in future seasons.
